Don’t Buy Microsoft.

Now I know that’s quite a blanket statement, so let me clarify.  You may hear me harping on about the problems with DRM.  People have cottoned on to this fact quite well in recent years, and now people are looking for music without drm (i.e. plain mp3) from amazon, play.com and even itunes.  This PC Pro interview with Microsoft head of MSN Music shows how microsoft rip their customers off with lock in making you buy the same stuff repeatedly.  Read the questions, see how it totally fails to answer direct questions, and how some of the answers he give range from wrong, totally clueless to possible the need for a restful stay somewhere in a wheel chair in a dressing gown with a blanket over his legs.

Fail Fail Fail

Saw this on failblog….. oh dear….

How dumb can you get?

Postman loses £130,000 savings to Nigerian internet scam after being duped by a friend he met on MySpace | Mail Online.

Seriously this guys gullability goes for bad to worse.  We really need to come up with an internet license which you can’t have if you daft, that should keep people who fill in friends emails to “see something really cool”, and the nigerian spammers at bay..

How can I be pretty clever and have no money, and this guy really really dumb and have £130,000??

Beat This iPhone

How have I not heard of this before?  People with their poser iPhones, the gphone may not quite have the best stuff as yet, but the power of open source will shine through.  This was on the gadget show tonight:

http://www.mobilizy.com/wikitude.php

It’s augmented reality.  Imagine google maps for mobile, except you hold your camera up to the world and it overlays information on screen as you look at stuff.  This is the future…

Sack The Ministers

BBC NEWS | Politics | Sack Strictly judges – minister.

In a time where people are wondering about rising unemployment and paying their mortgages, food  and energy bills, the amount of political time being devoted to X-Factor and Strictly Come Dancing is rediculous.

Sack the MPs for wasting tax payers money.  SORT THE ECONOMY!  Stuff crappy vote for this reality nonsense.  If parliament start to go on about I’m a celebrity then something serious needs to happen.

Enemy of the state style paranoia required

BBC NEWS | Technology | Keyboard sniffers to steal data

It seems like no matter what we do, we’re going to get data nicked :(

Die IE6 Die

» Facebook doesn’t really support IE6 » as days pass by, by Stuart Langridge

Yes!  Facebook are kicking support for IE6 out the window in their update.  Hurray..  Something so widely used can’t help but force people to get rid of IE6.  IE6 is so broken that I can’t understand why on earth anyone would seek to use that for their browser.

If you use IE6 your credit card details are basically waiting to be stole.  From a work perspective IE has so many bugs that make no sense (like very often how chunks of the page don’t show until you scroll down).  These bugs are because of a fault in IE6, not the web code, but we the developers of websites have to alter our sites to work around such bugs.  So instead of being fixed at the source there are millions of fixes applied across millions of sites.

It’s understanderable that facebook are saying enough is enough..  modern web needs modern web browers.. IE6 is over 7 years old..  Loads of people weren’t regularly using the net 7 years ago, people need to get a clue, and more importantly get firefox, which gets releases far more regularly than IE, 7 is getting on for 2 years old now..

Don’t Do It Jerry

PC Pro: News: Microsoft enlists Seinfeld in Vista battle

Vista is rubbish, and people don’t want it.  Jerry Seinfeld is awesome.  Don’t tarnish yourself jerry..  Sadly more of vistas grime is going to rub off on you, rather than your greatness rubbing off on it.
