Government Apology

Laura and I received a letter through the post today from HM Revenue and Customs. They’re apologising for the loss of our data on this CD which has disappeared. It’s a pain in the backside and could lead to our identities being stolen. These things happen however and we’re very good at monitoring our bank account.

We are however wondering when our apology from Royal Mail is going to arrive. It’s them who lost it really any way. Perhaps I can help by outlining a suggested letter for them to copy and paste:

Dear X,

We’re writing to apologise for an incident that we’re really responsible for. The loss of all your data from the government family allowance database.

You see, someone posted the information and simple expected us to do our part of the bargain. This should have been how it works, but unfortunately the stamp which is supposed to be a contract of sorts does not guarantee delivery.

We can’t possibly run a business where we promise that we’ll take what you want from A to B. Who could,… well apart from say Parcel Force, TNT, ANC, UPS, and even our selves if you pay us for Special Delivery (please read “Actual” where Special appears in the title).

I would like to say this won’t happen again, but unfortunately we have ancient sorting systems which we can’t possibly upgrade because all our postal staff will strike again in protest that modernisation will loose them jobs. Our only option is to basically get more inept at “mailing” items from A to B, so that ultimately another company will take the place of the Royal Mail, perhaps “Virgin Mail”, and then all our staff will be unemployed, it’s how they want it to be.

My Sincere aplogies and regrets

Postmaster General

There you go Royal mail, send that out to all us people who are going to get defrauded because of your inability to do your job. Of course when you do post it out be sure to use “Special Delivery” or perhaps via Business Post or a more reliable carrier, that way we’ll definitely get to read your lovely apology.

Amazing Coincidences

Top 15 Amazing Coincidences – The List Universe was stumbled upon by James.. Not sure how true these are, but very interesting read.

Reminds me of the crap Tom Cruise film “Magnolia” which starts off with some amazing co-incidences only to be a boring waste of time with absolutely tenuous links between the characters which are supposed to be as amazing conincidences.

Kids are cute

This New Scientist article about toddlers interacting with sony’s adorable QRIO robot shows just how cute kids are..

Oh No!

I was greeted by the following email today:

As you may already be aware, the UK release date for Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga has changed to 16-Nov-2007. Changes to release dates are relatively common in the videogames industry and are unfortunately beyond our control.

I am very dissapointed.  I suppose the best way to look at this is that if there were any bugs they need to sort before release that they’re fixed, but who knows why this has happened.

Oh well.  I’ll have to wait another week.

Lego Star Wars

I have ordered it! Yes that’s right, I have pre-ordered Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for the Wii. My remote will be my light-saber. My birthday money will be going towards this and it should arrive from game.co.uk on the day of release. Yeah!

Also thanks to Quidco, an online co-operative, I get 11% cashback for doing nothing but clicking on their account to go through to game.co.uk. You should check it out, there’s squillions of online retailers they’re registered with, and you get cashback for things you’re buying anyway. Very nice. All Quidco do is charge £5 a year if and only if you’ve earned more than £5 in a year through cashback. Very good..

Preservation

Spent this weekend preseving my tomatoes from the greenhouse.  I made among other things:

  • Roast Tomato & Courgette soup with curly kale (3 nice large jars, two servings in each)
  • Roast Tomato Pasta Sauce with garlic and basil (3 large jars with pasta maybe 4 servings)
  • Sweet Tomato Chutney (this was lovely with ham in a toasted sandwich) (3 large jars, 1 small)

All in all, very productive, if not messy in the kitchen area.  Nice that my hard-grown toms will see us right for a few months over winter.  I am particularly looking forward to christmas left-overs with that chutney!

Asus Eee PC 701

This review of a new ASUS laptop, for just about £200 (a little less for some versions apparently) seems nice.  It’s linux based, hence the cheapness, and only 900Mhz.  I like the look of this, particularly if I could use it for just internet and some simple programming.

The small size and wireless make it a real benefit, it should be really light.  When our laptop goes, this will very likely replace it. We’ve got the full-pc for more computationally expensive tasks.  Office, web etc are all fine on this little beauty.

Just wonder whether I can run ubuntu on it as opposed to the ASUS version, but we’ll see.  (Probably Xubuntu, the small resource version of ubuntu).

I Are Jedi

There are reports that the latest star-wars game is on it’s way to the wii. Yes Yes Yes! You will exactly be able to use the remote as a light-sabre and shove people about with your force powers using the nunchuck in the other hand..

This is what I bought a wii for!! I already have my eye on lego-starwars for christmas, which won’t have quite as much relationship to the light-sabre etc, but will still rock more than on a regular platform

It’s A Girl!

Hurray..

Laura gave birth on 14th August to a Beautiful baby girl. Elizabeth Joy Lozinski, 8lbs 7oz. Adoreable..
